1. Our commitment

Southwest Adventure Tours wants every guest to be able to research a tour, book it, and take part in it. That means two different jobs: a website that works with assistive technology, and tours that accommodate people wherever they reasonably can.

We measure this website against WCAG 2.2 Level AA, the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act and by Section 508. We believe the site substantially conforms to that standard. Where we fall short, §4 says so plainly rather than leaving you to discover it.

2. What we have done on this site

Each of these is something you can check for yourself:

• Every page works without a mouse. There is a "skip to content" link as the first stop, headings run in order without skipped levels, and the keyboard focus outline is drawn to stay visible against both the light and dark backgrounds we use.
• Every image has alternative text that describes what is actually in the photograph, not a filename. Decorative overlays are hidden from screen readers.
• Every tour question and answer is in the page itself, in native disclosure elements. Nothing on this site requires JavaScript to read, so a screen reader, a text browser or a slow connection all get the full content.
• Form fields have real, clickable labels, errors are announced in text rather than only by color, and inputs are set at a size that stops iOS zooming the page and stranding you there.
• Color is never the only signal. Body text and interface text are set to meet the AA contrast ratio against their backgrounds.
• Motion is honored, not imposed. If your system asks for reduced motion, transitions are switched off. Nothing on this site autoplays, flashes or moves without your asking.
• Text resizes. The layout reflows to 200% zoom and to narrow screens without loss of content or horizontal scrolling.

3. Accessibility of the tours themselves

Please talk to us before deciding a tour is not for you. Our vehicles are not wheelchair-lift equipped, and the terrain on several tours is rough. But "not wheelchair accessible" on a listing is a blunt instrument, and it hides real differences between an all-day desert hike and an afternoon looking at buildings from a seat.

The following tours are currently listed as not wheelchair accessible: Salt Lake City Walking Tour, Salt Lake City Highlights Driving Tour, Salt Lake City Museum Tour, Hardware Ranch Elk Refuge Adventure, Park City & Olympic Heritage Excursion, Great Salt Lake and Antelope Island, Salt Lake Antelope Island Dark Sky Experience, Bonneville Salt Flats Adventure, Snowbird Summer Excursion Day Tour.

What that listing does not tell you is how much walking a given tour actually involves, how far it is from the vehicle to the view, whether there is a seat at the stops, or whether a particular stop can be swapped. We know those answers tour by tour, and we would rather give them to you than have you rule yourself out.

We will make reasonable modifications to our policies and practices where they are needed for you to take part: for example adjusting the pace, changing the order or length of stops, choosing a route with shorter walks, seating you where boarding is easiest, or welcoming a service animal. Some modifications are not possible without fundamentally altering the tour or creating a safety risk, and we will tell you which is which.

• Service animals are welcome on all our tours. Please tell us when you book so the guide can plan seating and water stops.
• Mobility aids. Tell us the type and folded dimensions and we will confirm what the vehicle can carry.
• Hearing. Guides can face you when speaking and write down key information. Ask at the start of the day.
• Vision. Guides give spoken description as a matter of course, and can add more if you ask.
• Stamina, altitude and heat. Say so, and we will tell you which departures suit and which do not.

4. Known limitations

We would rather tell you these than have you find them:

• The booking system is not ours. Bookings are taken in a third-party reservation system on a different domain. We have not audited it against WCAG and cannot fix it directly. If any part of booking is not usable for you, call us on 800-970-5864 and we will take the booking over the phone. The price is the same.
• Photographs of landscape. Alt text can describe what a photograph shows, but a written description of a canyon is not the same experience as the photograph. We have written the surrounding copy so that no essential information exists only in an image.
• Our vehicles are not wheelchair-lift equipped. This is a real limitation, not a wording problem, and we will not pretend otherwise while it is true.
• Some venues are outside our control. Park facilities, trails, viewpoints and restrooms are managed by the agencies that own them, and their accessibility is theirs to determine.

5. Tell us when something does not work

This is the part of the page we most want you to use. If a page on this site is unusable, if an accommodation was refused, or if a guide got it wrong, we want to know, including when it reflects badly on us.

Email info@southwestadventuretours.com with "Accessibility" in the subject line, or call 800-970-5864. Tell us the page or the tour, what you were trying to do, and what happened. If you use assistive technology, naming it helps us reproduce the problem.

We will acknowledge within 2 business days and give you a substantive answer within 10. If a fix will take longer than that, we will tell you what we are doing and when it will be done, and we will offer you a way to get what you needed in the meantime, usually a phone booking or a spoken description.

6. How this was assessed

This statement is based on a self-assessment of the site against WCAG 2.2 Level AA, carried out by the team that built it, using keyboard-only navigation, automated checks and inspection of the rendered markup on every page type.

A self-assessment is not a third-party audit, and we are not claiming one. If a formal audit is commissioned, this page will say so and will link to the result.
